Ok…so according to this it can be effective. Do you have any stories of success in using this method with your dog? What behaviors were you able to correct in your dog? Examples/details please!

Also…those of you that believe in this fear tactic of training, can you please provide me more sources on this school of training as I am interested in learning more about it.

So far, I have only found this one website talking about it…and to be honest, it really doesn’t make it sound like hitting a dog is the best possible way to train.

Jersey…you are right, that website owner wasn’t promoting it. I just couldn’t find anything out there on spanking/hitting that didn’t say it was ineffective and a bad idea. This was the only one that said, it is effective…but still a bad idea.

I have a 6 year old Lab / Am Staff Mix and he is VERY stubborn. He also has very little in the way of formal training. I need to work on this, for his sake and mine, but I can’t afford a class (or private lessons) right now.
I know the basics for dog training, so I am looking for a good book recommendation that I can use as a guideline. We need structure.

A friend on mine lives in a very horrible area, extremely ghetto.
He has two dogs he wants to train to protect him. He’s been keeping the dogs with him 24/7 and they are only 13 weeks old.
He doesn’t like anyone touching them or giving them treats because he doesn’t want them to like other people. He loves them but is there another route to training them to be guard/protection dogs? I can tell he hates keeping them cooped up everyday in either his bedroom ( he is 17 ) or in the yard for bathroom breaks.

Okay, it’s not the training, really. It’s the supplies. There are so many training supplies for your dog that I don’t know what they all are or what they do. So my questions are:

1.) What are the training supplies that are made for a dog?
2.) What is it’s purpose(s)?
3.) How would I use it?

Oh, and I don’t want and never will use shock collars. I don’t care if it can be humane, I just don’t want to ever use it. It’s my opinion, sorry if you don’t agree with it.

I would like to build my own equipment to practise at home, can anyone give me some tips on how to make a tunnel?

I have found most of the other plans to making equipment on the net….just can’t find a tunnel guide.

Basically I wanted to open a small rescue consisting of about 4 horses, 4 dogs, and a feral cat colony (safer out of the streets in my opinion). I wanted to use a dog to help pull around feed as well as help me garden (I’m a natural kind of gal).

I was reading on how to get started in the carting world but all I could find was stuff on equipment. If I wanted my dog to be able to perform the tasks completely by age two, what would I do about training?
